Mohawk Indian Homes

The Mohawk people lived in villages of longhouses. Longhouses are large wood-frame buildings layered with sheets of bark, mostly from elm trees. One longhouse could be a hundred feet long, and an entire clan lived in it, up to 60 people! Today, longhouses are only used for ceremonial purposes. Today, Mohawks live in normal houses and apartments.
